Is Making Modern House Elevation with Tiles a Good Option

The front of the house tells a story behind it. In any modern house elevation, the elements which we are using play a great role. This is important not only from the aesthetics point of view but also for the durability of the house. Unlike early days, people like to incorporate trendy as well as durable materials even in small house floor plans. Materials like wood, aluminium panels, CNC jali, tiles, glass etc where on one hand enhance the aesthetic appeal, on the other hand, they also safeguard the actual structure from early damage. In this blog, we will find out how using tiles in the facade of a house is a win-win situation in home construction.

Why Tiles Are a Good Option for Modern House Elevation?

Cost-effective

In the building construction industry, materials that occur naturally come at great cost while made materials then come last in the list the machine-made materials. Tile in this case falls last in the list and is thus very cost-effective for modern house elevation of small house floor plans. The major components of 30-40% of the material as calcium silicate and 10-30% clay which are found in abundance in India and thus they cost less than any other material.

Durable

As I mentioned above clay is also the major component of tiles. If we go in deep clay has a non-porous nature. A non-porous nature means it can prevent water from seeping inside and thus it acts as a resistance to seepage issues. In modern house elevations, ceramic tiles can be used in the facade for small house floor plans considering their budget proportion too. Since these tiles are burnt under very high temperatures they can sustain extreme heat, cold and other weather conditions.

Sustainable

Using tiles in home elevations can be a sustainable option. As these tiles contain clay and sand, which is a natural material, they can be recycled and reused. They also cause less carbon footprints to the environment due to this nature. In the design of a modern house, elevation can make use of tiles for a sustainable option.

Easy Maintenance

They are the most human-friendly material that is used in home construction. Since the surface is made by burning the clay in a heated furnace it mostly comes out as an easy-maintenance friendly material. Since they are water-resistant they can be washed easily. They aslo don't get affected by soap and detergents. Thus they are easy to install and easy to maintain.

The Most Effective Types of Tiles for Modern House Elevation

Apart from regular ceramic tiles modern-day architects use many other types of materials for facade making. With this, tilework has also evolved. Here we are listing the cost-effective types of tiles that can be used for modern house elevation.

Terracotta

Terracotta tiles are made from terracotta clay which is a mixture of clay, water and natural pigments like ochre and is then baked into various forms. These tiles are thus made from 100% natural materials and are very popular in facade designing due to their natural rustic colours. In European countries, this is a very common material that is used for making roofs of houses.

Granite Tiles

In comparison to ceramic tiles, granite tiles are more porous, so they can’t be used for roofing whereas they are best used for the walls that are behind the main wall but are visible as part of house elevation. These tiles are known for their stain resistance, easy cleaning, less signs of wear and fading.

Vitrified Tiles

These tiles can be considered as an advanced version of ceramic tiles. Vitrified tiles are a mixture of clay and silica which is heated at a very high temperature resulting in a glossy finish. Unlike ceramic tiles, these need not be given an additional glaze effect for smooth and shiny surfaces.

Porcelain

These are the strongest composition of tiles and thus are considered best for the exteriors of the buildings. They come in a wide range of colours and textures. Due to their strong composition, and high resistance to water, they stand robust for exterior environments. However, porcelain tiles are a bit more high-end than vitrified tiles but most durable tiles in all.

HPL and ACP

These are High-Pressure Laminates and Aluminium Composite Panels. Both of these tiles are synthetically made with the use of compressed paper sheets and resins in HPL and the use of a multi-layer polyethene core inserted in between aluminium coils. This makes them water-resistant, stain-resistant, available in different colours and textures and thus a good choice for modern house elevations.

Thus in this way, govt is also making efforts towards maximising the use of renewable, sustainable and innovative building materials in construction.
